Caffle Brewery – in the heart of Pembrokeshire was established in May 2013 by Chris and Sharon Bannister. Production has increased every year as more local licensed businesses have sought to sell Caffle beers. This increase has meant the addition of two conditioning tanks in an extended beer store has been essential.
The ethos was always to be a local brewery with as low an environmental impact as possible; spent grain is fed to animals, waste water is filtered through reed beds, hops are composted, all beer containers are reused/ recycled and we have never used any plastic packaging (any we receive we pay to recycle.) Beer delivery miles are kept within a 30 mile radius of the brewery.
The brewery is next door to The Old School in Llawhaden, which is our home but is also where Doris, the brewer’s nan, went to school. Her influence extends to the names of our beers, which use these sometimes forgotten words from the Pembrokeshire dialect:
Drop Squint (traditional pale ale) – she’d say this instead of swearing in front of the grandchildren. Sholly (amber ale) – tipsy and Kift (nettle blonde ale) – awkward/ different/ skewed, to name but a few.
The more fascinating words we discover the more unique beers we are inspired to create.
Normally we don’t offer online ordering however due to the Covid-19 pandemic we will deliver beer, free of charge, to people in Pembrokeshire.
This is currently only available to Pembrokeshire residents.
